These pair of prescription bifocals were created, in which the distance portion of the lens is tinted for sunglass use, but the near portion of the lenses remains clear. After having cataract surgery and getting my astigmatism fixed, I could not see while driving. Everything was so bright, and I had to wear sunglasses. However, I could not see the instruments in my car with just my sunglasses alone. This meant I had to switch back and forth between my sunglasses and bifocals. It was very frustrating. Although these are prescription bifocals that are tinted to protect the eyes from bright sunlight, the tinting on the near portion of the lens makes viewing text in a book, on an outdoor restaurant menu, or a dashboard very difficult. I just knew there was a better way, so I was inspired to develop Sunglasses with Clear Bifocals.
